Rich in history and culture, diverse in recreational opportunities, and convenient to shopping and highways, South Hadley is an inviting and charming community. While South Hadley offers a wide range of opportunities and services, the people make the community a warm and welcoming place to live and to visit. With a population of approximately 17,300, the community has a density of only 945 persons per square mile. Some areas are more developed than others, but South Hadley has considerable open space for its residents and visitors to enjoy.
To assist in your process of settling into South Hadley, here is some basic information to get you started.
The town is divided into five precincts – A, B, C, D, and E. This information is used most during elections. Residents vote in one place, South Hadley High School, by precinct. Determine your precinct (PDF). For all things voting and election-related, visit our town clerk's page.
There are two districts in South Hadley for water and fire coverage. Learn what district in which you're located. Choose "Layers," and check off "Fire District Map." The map will then be divided into two districts. Access the website for South Hadley Fire District No. 1 and the website for Fire District No. 2.
SHELD is the town's municipality-owned electric light department. To sign up for service, visit SHELD's website.
Trash stickers are required to access the town's recycling center and compost area, located at 10 Industrial Drive. To receive one, sign up with this form (PDF). Your annual trash fee must be paid before a sticker can be given.
South Hadley has a cable studio which provides community television on channel 15, including live coverage of municipal meetings on television and the web. Learn more about that here.
